Celebrating Exceptional Published Research Contributing to the
Understanding and Treatment of Venous Disease
The Venous Disease Coalition’s Venous Disease Research Awards recognize important research relevant to the understanding and/or treatment of venous disease. The Coalition seeks to identify exceptional contributions to venous disease research. These annual awards assist health care practitioners, medical journals, the media, and the public by featuring important new knowledge in the field of venous disease.
The awards will be presented at the Vascular Disease Foundation’s dinner September 20, 2010 in the categories of:
Award winners will present their research at the Venous Disease Coalition’s Annual Meeting September 20th in Washington DC. Registration Information for attending the dinner are coming soon!
Venous disease affects approximately 80 million Americans and is known to increase the risk of death and to diminish quality of life for affected individuals. Venous disease is a major public health issue. The translation of advances in basic science and clinical research into improvements in patient care is central to the vascular health of the population.
The Venous Disease Coalition is a collaborative network of more than 35 professional and public organizations that are united by one common goal: to improve both public and professional awareness of venous disease. The VDC’s vision is to create a society committed to the prevention, early detection, and prompt treatment of venous disease and its complications. It is the mission of the VDC to promote efforts to improve the survival rates and quality of life for individuals with, or at risk for, venous disease.
The Coalition seeks to identify, on an annual basis, exceptional contributions to venous disease research. These awards will assist health care practitioners, medical journals, the media, and the public by featuring important new knowledge in this field.
To recognize important recent research that is relevant to the understanding and/or treatment of venous disease.
Nominated research papers should have provided important or novel insights into the basic science of thrombogenesis, thrombus resolution; clinical outcomes; or the implementation of quality improvement or venous endothelial function. These categories are not intended to be all inclusive and additional relevant areas of research may be equally worthy of recognition and are acceptable for nomination.
Two mechanisms will be used to solicit nominations:
Acknowledging that comparison of research value across disciplines is challenging, nominations will be accepted in the following three award categories:
