2nd Annual Venous Disease Coalition Annual Meeting

Members of the Venous Disease Coalition (VDC) and the Office of the Surgeon General will come together to urge immediate action to fight deadly blood clots known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) on Sept. 15 at 9 a.m. at the VDC Annual Meeting at The Grand Hyatt Hotel, in Washington, D.C. Acting Surgeon General Rear Admiral Steven K. Galson, MD, MPH will give a key note address on DVT.

National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Director, Elizabeth Nabel, MD and Hani Atrash, MD, Director, CDC Division of Blood Disorders are all scheduled to speak.

Samuel Z. Goldhaber, MD, VDC Chair and Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, will moderate an afternoon panel discussion at which the VDC will develop an action plan to increase public awareness and to educate healthcare professionals about DVT. Panelists will include:

Lunch will offer a presentation on the "Long-Term Consequences of Venous Thromboembolism” by Susan Kahn, MD MSc of McGill University, Montreal.

The afternoon session will focus on developing an action plan to raise DVT awareness and address VDC business.
