Dr. Suresh Vedantham is a practicing Interventional Radiologist and an Associate Professor of Radiology & Surgery at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1992, he completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of California, Los Angeles (1993-1997). He then underwent fellowship training in Interventional Radiology at Stanford University Medical Center in Stanford, California. In 1998, he joined the faculty of the Washington University School of Medicine.
Dr. Vedantham serves as the Vice-Chair of the Venous Disease Coalition and is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Vascular Disease Foundation. Dr. Vedantham is a nationally-recognized leader in the clinical use and scientific assessment of endovascular clot removal treatments for deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Dr. Vedantham has published numerous articles describing endovascular DVT therapies, and first-authored the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) reporting standards and clinical practice standards for endovascular DVT interventions. Dr. Vedantham has chaired the SIR DVT Research Committee and DVT Standards Committee since 2003. Dr. Vedantham also participates at a leadership level in a number of high-impact, multidisciplinary projects/organizations aimed at improving the care of patients with venous disease, including the American College of Phlebology (Board of Directors member), the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organization’s (JCAHO’s) national DVT standards project (Technical Advisory Panel member), and the SIR Foundation (Chair of two Research Consensus Panels on venous disease). Dr. Vedantham is currently developing a multicenter randomized clinical trial to determine whether Pharmacomechanical Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis can prevent the Post-Thrombotic Syndrome in DVT patients.
